What a joke from the SCHSL committee. If recruiting happened, you follow by-laws. Commissioner Singleton said it is a violation, whether that's varsity or sub-varsity. Then the committee said they didn't want to hurt the kids. If a coach or administration committed a violation and was caught, it is the school hurting the kids, not the HSL.

The Gray meeting got a little spicy at the end. I am very surprised that the motion of 2500 dollar fine and to suspend the head coach and the assistant coach in question for the remainder of the season and the school was placed in warning status. Now my question is if those coaches coach JV only then after this week they will be done or are these coaches that are on the varsity team as well

I think there was a couple of the committee members that felt that way too and they didn't support any of the motions

The Head Coach is suspended. The other one I am not sure of what he coaches or at what level.

It is the moral obligation of EVERY member of the committee to support the HARSHEST possible consequences that can be levied. It is only right to end charter school sports as a viable entity. Public school athletes are OWED that from a moral standpoint. Charters cannot be allowed to exist.
And on the eighth day, God created the Woodruff Wolverines

As far as the charter schools, I’m pretty sure that the genie is already out of the bottle on that one. I just wish that the geniuses at the SCHSL would arrive at the common sense decision to put those schools in their own special classification. You can talk about the multiplier all you want. Sounds good. But the vast majority of 3A public schools can’t compete with All Star teams.

So, as long as we can go without our head coach for part of a season, and pay a $2,500 fine we can openly recruit? I'll call the Newberry high staff and tell them to start making calls, I'll cover the $2,500. Heck, I'll be head coach in name so that the suspension doesn't really hurt the program. Build up the recruiting budgets.

Exactly, you just opened a can of worms. If that's all the punishment was, even for a "middle schooler", you are about to see programs attack these middle schools even more if they know it won't affect their Varsity program of playoffs.
