It all comes down to this Friday in the Battle of the Bulldogs. Newberry will take their 3-0 region record down to Silver Bluff in a battle for the region championship.
Newberry has been dominant in region play, averaging 46 ppg while giving up less than 7 ppg with 2 shutouts. This past Friday, they could’ve scored 80 on Swansea. The 2nd half was shortened and a running clock instituted. QB Kenton Caldwell was 10-10 for 288 yards and 3 TD’s all in the first half. RB BJ Jones added 2 scores on the ground. The defense held Swansea to 125 total yards, with most of that coming on their opening drive. Newberry’s longest drive was 95 yards in 8 plays. They had multiple 1 play touchdown drives, and I never thought I’d see the day a Newberry team played this fast on offense. Blink and you might miss a touchdown.
Silver Bluff comes in 2-1 in the region, with the loss being to Keenan. I haven’t seen much about them, but I hear they’re extremely run heavy. They will have to control the clock if they have any chance.
Newberry can do no worse than 2nd in the region. The amount of point they’ve allowed guarantees that.

Re: Newberry @ Silver Bluff
I was thinking about going down for the game until I saw how far it is. I'll be listening at home.
In other news, here is Newbery QB Kenton Caldwell's stats from the last 2 weeks:
26-31, 509 yards, 6 TD's. Right around 20 yards a completion.
I can remember when Newberry QB's would throw for around 700-900 in a season back in the wing-t days. I think in 2001, our QB threw for just around 1100 and we played 14 games. Heck, a few years back we had a RB go for 1,000 yards just in 4 games in the playoffs.

Re: Newberry @ Silver Bluff
I hope your right. The level of domination in region play this year is something I've never seen before. Keenan is the only team that has scored on the Bulldogs. Running clocks in the other 2 games, with Swansea, who was ranked 7 in the state at kick off, asking to shorten the quarters in the 2nd half.
The tough non-region slate Newberry played made them look a lot worse than they are. They really should've only had 1 loss in the non-region, as Clinton dominated the 2nd half after Newberry was playing solid in the first half. Chapin, Newberry left points on the field before the half. Fairfield, Newberry started playing sloppy and let them come back. This team could easily have only 1 loss.

Yeah, I don't like that. The 2 seed in our region has a much better draw to round 3.nastycats1988 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 3:44 pmWinner of this game Meets Dillon in the Second round.I will definitely be watching

Radio announcers for us just said we ended the Silver Bluff 30 game winning streak 22 years ago. All of a sudden, I feel old.

Silver Bluff misses a field goal. Newberry gets the ball back. Newberry defense has to toughen up, but Swansea did the same thing last week, took their opening drive right down the field.

Re: Newberry @ Silver Bluff
0-0 after 1. Both teams have moved the ball, Newberry got stopped on downs, fumbled inside the 30, and had a punt blocked. Silver Bluff got inside the 10, missed a field goal, had to punt, and are driving now. Don’t know what the deal is, but both teams are slipping and sliding all over the place.
