I've been saying it since the summer, I think you really have to consider Sosebee (former Crest head coach), that guy can flat out coach an offense.

I think we see a surprise with this one.

Jim Sosebee will be a good fit I just wished he never got in trouble at Greenville we probably would still have him Scoot Watson would be a good fit and heck I bet Porter already ready to apply lol

Different perspective.

Who WON'T go to Gaffney?

1. Knotts - Dutch Fork
2. Wofford - Northwestern
3. ??
4. ??

Anyone from the lower state come to mind? LaPrad from Fort Dorchester??

The guessing is fun for the fans and board posters :-)

Sosebee would be great at Gaffney. But I don’t see it happening. His issues years ago that led to him leaving Greenville, and what happened with his sudden exit from Crest? To the best of my knowledge he isn’t coaching anywhere this year. Something odd there. But the guy can coach.

The Cherokee County School board is too cheap to go out and hire a big time coach. Coach Strickland left because they wouldn't let him replace an assistant who left. To hire someone like Tom Knott's you have to hire his staff also. It will be someone already on the staff unless someone wants to come in on the cheap. Probably Donnie Littlejohn. I know from an inside source, he wants the job bad.
I can assure you that Phil Strickland did not leave Gaffney because of that.

He left because politics got in the way. When you have school board members sticking their noses where they don't belong, because an ex school board member doesn't get his way, it's a recipe for disaster.

It had nothing to do with replacing an assistant coach.

Yeah this job will attract college position coaches / coordinators too. Wouldn't be surprised if they take their time with this hire.

Anyone who knows anything about Gaffney Football knows this:

Take what you know, toss it in the trash can. That administration is likely to do anything! The hire that most people think is going to happen (Donnie Littlejohn) is one end of the options and hiring someone you have never heard of is the other end of the options and they can go anywhere in between. There is no sure thing with them.

I think the "pool" will be full of candidates as anyone who knows anything about High School Football knows of Gaffney. The tradition, the facilities, the talent pool ( you get students from the entire Cherokee County including students that should be at Blacksburg as well as a very active "Transfer Portal" ) are all very positive. Add in to the mix the support (and yes there is some bickering from time to time) but overall, the support is there! I am sure the $$ is good enough and I'm positive that applications will come from all over the southeast. I would be very shocked if they name a new coach quickly.

I think they will go over the applications and make three piles:
1 - Top Candidates
2 - If we don't get anyone from list 1
3 - You wish we would consider you!
74 sir you nailed it on the head with this one. I think that the number of applicants will be from all over the southeast. Remember when Coach Curtis retired back in the early 90's and they went way down to Florida and hired a coach nobody had heard of and that guy brought a fire and swagger to the program that nobody had seen and then proceeded to go on to win a couple of state titles. The question is what was his name? I honestly think that most in the community and most of the players want Donnie as the head coach but the stipulation that is being put on that hire is that he has to go out and find a coordinator that is proven and not just promote from within the program

I know exactly what this school board is capable of doing and I don't trust that they will do what is best for the school and town as far as hiring a coach is concerned but they will do what is best for their own pockets and will more than likely do the cheap thing and piss everybody off.

Yep you are exactly right and the bad part is it was a ex superintendent that stuck her nose and raised hell about some of the coaches dipping and they told her very politely to get off their field thats 1 example that I know about that is the reason strickland left
