Serious questions if you have the time or info, (lord knows you got an opinion)
What area do you think DF has improved the most since we played earlier?
And do you have like yards per game averages? Passing? Rushing?
Thanks in advance.
Who me? Opinionated?... savage, you must have me confused with another poster.
DF has improved in every facet from the first game of the season...or at least I would hope and think so under TK. What I think specifically is one of my many "opinions" (and we know what they are like) ...lol. Biggest thing was just rust for several key starters- either 6 or 7 starters (including the starting QB, WR, LB, TE and DT) had just finished a long summer baseball season- playing for the Irmo team and they had a good run, so they didn't get the full summer DF football workout- just a little rusty. Overall penalties are down- they were flagged for 194 yards in that first game against the Vikings, and only for about 50 yards last week against RB. For me, the development of depth on the OL and DL has been the biggest improvement and the brave move of starting a freshman at center on the OL (remember this name, Brody Lorenzo if he stays healthy and committed- 6'3" 280 9th grader). DF is healthy currently, which is a good thing. TK says this is his best team in some time, which says a lot. Honestly, this team is a pleasant surprise. Most DF fans were looking to 2025 and 2026 for some very special seasons watching these kids grow up. I think we knew this team would be good, but they are better than expected. For me, it just seems like sometimes they "phone it in" and we don't see their full potential- that may be by design, but the 2018, 2019 and 2020 teams and the 2022 team after they finally got healthy, went after it like their britches were on fire. We've seen glimpses of this team's potential at times- first half of the Chapin game, first half of the Oceanside game, the WK game (especially defensively) and for 3 quarters or so in the BS game and the second RB game in the playoffs. Even the Irmo game seemed a bit reserved and playing to not make mistakes- the first drive ending up in the red zone with Irmo picking off a pass in the end zone may have been part of that and just "playing it safe". Not sure if it is complacency at times or part of TK's evil plan...lol. They have been tested. Maxpreps rated their schedule as the most difficult and the fact that 4 of their 9 regular season opponents are playing in the state semis seems to strengthen that point.
As far as stats go, DF statbroadcast.com or Max Preps would have a full run down of their stats- I think they are averaging a little over 40 points a game and giving up less than 7 points a game defensively. I think the offense is averaging around 400 yards a game - fairly balanced though it is probably a little more on the passing side than rushing side. DF doesn't have a Green, Hall or Hoff back there carrying the rock, but Anderson and Shine do a good job, along with Smith- and Offing is a good ball carrier too. Good receivers and TEs, and a good OL.
Defense is solid- DL is deep and hard to block- Walker, Williams, Fulmer, Steed, Cesario, Norris- they get after it. Hard to find a better set of LBs in Smith, Salters and Jackson and the secondary is anchored by Elgin Sessions and Malo Smith- one of the best secondary groups around as well. All that being said, I raised three sons, and you never know what a teenager is going to do lol...Who knows. We will have to wait and see what happens Friday.
