The questions I have are which school district did this kid come from and also what are the rules in the by laws and constitution of the schsl for recruiting violationsballman864 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 1:35 pmExactly, you just opened a can of worms. If that's all the punishment was, even for a "middle schooler", you are about to see programs attack these middle schools even more if they know it won't affect their Varsity program of playoffs.bigdog2003 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 1:23 pmSo, as long as we can go without our head coach for part of a season, and pay a $2,500 fine we can openly recruit? I'll call the Newberry high staff and tell them to start making calls, I'll cover the $2,500. Heck, I'll be head coach in name so that the suspension doesn't really hurt the program. Build up the recruiting budgets.

The Clowns are out in full force now. It has been determined in the closed session that there was 1 or more that is ineligible that didn't have a bona fide move

Marlboro County did not get any relief on sanctions but the high school league will review atleast 7 of the 8 players to see if a bona fide move was made

So you don’t support school choice? I don’t know the answer for athletics…I don’t see any harsh penalties being levied against Public School all star teams and we have a few..I do know we ain’t getting our moneys worth outta public education..Wolverine_Legend wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 1:11 pmIt is the moral obligation of EVERY member of the committee to support the HARSHEST possible consequences that can be levied. Charters cannot be allowed to exist.racincowboy02 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 12:49 pmI think there was a couple of the committee members that felt that way too and they didn't support any of the motionsballman864 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 12:30 pmWhat a joke from the SCHSL committee. If recruiting happened, you follow by-laws. Commissioner Singleton said it is a violation, whether that's varsity or sub-varsity. Then the committee said they didn't want to hurt the kids. If a coach or administration committed a violation and was caught, it is the school hurting the kids, not the HSL.

I support education not being funded by tax dollars at all. If people knew how much money is wasted on made up jobs for people in offices instead on educating kids it would make them sick. Privatize education, and actually TEACH KIDS. There’s no need for all these positions they have in district offices. Bunch of 6 figure, made up jobs with names like “district testing director” “social media director” “elementary science coordinator”.mikey wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 7:10 pmSo you don’t support school choice? I believe I understand the issue with MC....something to do with ineligible players from NC.
I think there are two parts to the Gray issue- but not following the "player" issue. Don't see the problem aside from they need their own classification, however I don't think SC has the population and interest to support their own class. This is a free nation, and charter schools have their place and if the charter school wants to have an athletic program good on them. The closest one to Dutch Fork is Spring Hill, I believe- but they don't have an athletic program currently and those kids play sports at DF, Chapin and Irmo primarily.
I think having schools like MVP, Gray and Oceanside "play up" a classification or two from their actual enrollment is a good way to address their perceived advantages, but there are disadvantages as well, especially when it comes to reliable and consistent funding streams. Have no issue with what Gray and Oceanside have been doing. From what I saw regarding Oceanside, they run a nice operation there- no real optics on Gray or MVP, but they are "doing their thing".
End of the day, it's a kid's game, that doesn't really mean that much in the "grand scheme of things", and we all enjoy watching it... let them play ball!

Re: SCHSL Executive Meeting
They do have their on class its called SCISA and that is where the majority of these schools play. I don't have a problem with these schools coming in to the public school league if they will act and do like the public schools do. Come into the league and play ball in a clearly defined zone designed for their school and I know that won't be a feasible option because these schools charge a tuition and most people either won't pay the fee or can't afford it and that is ok and if that won't work then still have the clear zone and if they do get kids from outside of that zone then they should have to do a bona fide move or they should be treated with a multiplier. I don't know what I'm actually trying to say or put into words but there has to be a way to keep these schools from poaching players from the public schools and if they are caught then they need to be punished severallyDFOLDMAN wrote: ↑Thu Oct 31, 2024 7:26 amI believe I understand the issue with MC....something to do with ineligible players from NC.

Even with the multiplier to 3A there is still a competitive imbalance in most cases. In their first year, MVP is predicted to be the 1 seed in the upstate 3A playoffs. You have two, maybe three schools that can play with them. That’s it. And in their first year they just won state in golf. Was talking to someone who is an AD at a local school. He said that at some tournament that MVP’s volleyball team just killed everybody. These aren’t normal teams that should be competing against 3A public high schools. They are all star teams. Maybe there is a place for this type of school. That’s fine. But consider what it is. Put them in SCISA, their own classification, or 5A. They have no business in 3A.
